Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant I to supervise subordinate officers in a male offender facility with custody levels from minimum to close. The role includes shift oversight, timekeeping, and welfare of offenders, with a mandatory weather reporting designation and state benefits.

Requirements include eligibility for certification, background checks, drug screening, medical and psychological evaluations, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School or GED diploma with two years of correctional officer experience.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Produce a negative drug screening result.
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct shift line-up, make shift assignments, and inspect personnel to determine capability for posts.
• Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post.
• Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
• Accounting for persons and funds to ensure equipment is operationally ready.
• Responsible for subordinates' activities relating to custody and welfare of offenders.
• Working rotating and various duty assignments within the defined level of work.
