Job summary

North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant III who will supervise subordinate officers and oversee custody and welfare of male offenders in a state correctional facility. The role includes shift line-up, assignments, and ensuring 24/7 staffing coverage.

Requirements include certification eligibility and criminal background checks. This is a full-time position with state benefits and potential pay increases based on education, experience and internal equity.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of facility operations.
• Knowledge of Prisons’ policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
• Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
• Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
• Performing various duty assignments with the defined level of work and ensuring 24/7 staffing coverage.
• Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. Employee is responsible for subordinate officers’ activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders.
