Job summary

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to a shift and acts as initial commander during emergencies.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates post assignments, leave, and attendance; ensures security coverage.
• Conducts counseling and may recommend disciplinary actions; conducts performance evaluations.
• Oversees searches for contraband, inspections of buildings and grounds, and security procedures.
• Coordinates training and ongoing security procedure instruction for subordinates.
