Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections seeks a CORRECTIONAL OFFICER SERGEANT for Jefferson Correctional Institution. This is an internal promotional opportunity; only current FDC employees will be considered.

The incumbent supervises inmate housing and staff, enforces rules, and participates in major security operations. The role requires completion of basic recruit training, prior officer experience, and the ability to perform crisis interventions and security procedures in a high-risk environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers.
• Must have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates commensurate with risk level.
• Manages inmate housing areas and enforces rules and sanitation standards.
• Transports inmates with approved restraints and observes laws and policies.
• Performs crisis intervention and may use force as needed.
• Maintains facility security including searches and surveillance.
• Provides emergency assistance during emergencies and disasters.
• Directs officers in supervision and reports preparation.
