Job summary

The Department of Corrections in Windham, ME seeks a Correctional Boiler Engineer at Maine Correctional Center. This role manages high-pressure steam plant operations, maintenance, and repairs, supervising boiler operators and resident crews within a correctional facility.

Responsibilities include emergency repairs, monitoring equipment, and ensuring safety and security while providing continuous services. Licensure as a Stationary Engineer is required and benefits are provided by the state.

Qualifications

• Current valid Stationary Engineer’s license as issued by the Maine Bureau of Labor, Boiler Division.
• Experience operating and maintaining high-pressure steam plants and related equipment.
• Ability to supervise boiler operators, laborers, and residents safely.

Responsibilities

• Oversees operation of a large steam generating plant to ensure continuous steam production.
• Supervises boiler operators to ensure compliance with procedures and instructions.
• Monitors instruments and meters to maintain operating information logs.
• Guides skilled and unskilled workers to perform maintenance and repairs.
• Monitors resident behavior to maintain institutional security.
• Supervises residents on boiler projects for safe and correct work.
• Installs, adjusts, and repairs generators, pumps, and refrigeration systems.
• Fires and tends boilers on a relief basis to provide continuous coverage.
• Responds to emergency or hazardous condition calls and takes corrective action.
