Job summary

The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services seeks a Cook 3 for the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island, WA. You will supervise and participate in meal preparation and lead the food service staff to ensure quality meals and adherence to safety guidelines.

Schedule: 6:00am-2:00pm with Monday/Tuesday off; on-site duties at least three days a week may receive an additional 5% premium pay. Transportation perks include ferry access and an ORCA card.

Qualifications

• One year of lead work experience in cooking in an institution or commercial food preparation.
• Understanding of large-scale food prep operations and kitchen procedures.
• Knowledge of hygiene, sanitation, and standard kitchen equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, direct, train, and work with cooks in meal prep.
• Assign daily tasks, answer questions, and solve problems.
• Provide vocational training to resident workers.
• Follow complex recipes and prepare meals for three daily meals.
• Operate kitchen equipment and sanitize properly.
• Adjust recipes to meet dietary orders and quantities.
• Ensure proper food distribution to living units.
