Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services is seeking a Cook 3 at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island, WA. You will supervise and participate in the preparation and serving of meals, including specialized diets, and ensure adherence to food safety guidelines.

This on-site role offers a 6:00am-2:00pm schedule with Monday/Tuesday off, opportunities for training, and involvement in a secure, state-run facility.

Qualifications

  • Experience in large-scale food preparation in institutions or commercial settings.
  • Ability to follow complex recipes and dietary orders.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate daily meal production.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to train and mentor resident workers.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, train, and work with cooks on meal preparation.
  • Assign daily tasks and resolve issues.
  • Provide vocational training to resident workers.
  • Prepare meals following recipes and dietary orders for three meals daily.
  • Operate and sanitize kitchen equipment per health codes.
