Job summary

City Rescue Mission of Lansing seeks a Cook to prepare meals for 250+ guests, ensuring safety and quality in a busy kitchen. You will follow pre-assigned menus, adapt recipes for large batches, and maintain a clean workspace under pressure.

You will supervise volunteers, manage donations, and help reduce waste while showing compassion and sharing gospel with guests. The role requires ServSafe compliance and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma - Required
• ServSafe Certification or able to be Certified within 90 days of Employment - Required
• Commercial Cooking or Catering Experience - Preferred
• Proficient use of the Microsoft Suite - Preferred

Responsibilities

• Prep, cook, and complete meals for 250+ guests following the pre-assigned menu/recipes, both independently and with other staff and volunteers.
• Assist with the menu as needed, maintaining a grasp on current donations and adapting as necessary.
• Adapt recipes to large quantities, ensuring accurate measurements. Documenting and storing recipes for future use.
• Follow ServSafe rules/procedures ensuring food safety for all meals leaving the kitchen.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace, cleaning and organizing as you work.
• Process donations, organize and sort storage spaces, and complete a myriad of cleaning tasks as needed/assigned.
• Be a good steward of donations, adapting planned meals as needed to reduce waste.
• Oversee volunteers, ensuring their time is used wisely and to the benefit of the City Rescue Mission.
• Show the love of Christ, be ready to share the gospel, and pray with guests regularly.
