Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Lead, Converting on the 2nd shift to support manufacturing operations and ensure high-quality production. You will conduct quality checks, set up and adjust a flexographic press, perform make-ready tasks, and maintain a clean, safe workspace.

The role requires reading comprehension, basic math, color vision and the ability to work overtime. You will collaborate with maintenance and other departments to drive LEAN improvements and safe operations.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and manuals.
  • Must pass color vision and color hue tests.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Must perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Proficient with hand tools used in manufacturing.
  • Good attendance and reliability are essential.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed; overtime may be significant during busy periods.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, maintain and operate a flexographic press.
  • Make ready by installing anilox rollers, plates, inks, and dies; adjust for quality.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform minor adjustments to maintain production quality.
  • Notify supervision of repairs or replacement parts needed.
  • Deliver finished material to appropriate manufacturing areas.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and safe to operate.
  • Assist with other printing processes as directed.
  • Assist in training team members as assigned.
  • Understand documents related to printing and adhere to specs.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and LEAN principles.
  • Support continuous improvement in quality, cycle times and safety.
  • Collaborate with other departments and maintenance on projects/validations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The opportunity

Primary job duties will include but not limited to safely perform a wide range of tasks supporting the manufacturing areas, production, conducting quality checks, material set-up, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Sets up, adjusts, maintains and operates a flexographic press.
  • Conducts make ready by installing anilox rollers, plates, inks, and dies into the proper stations, making necessary adjustments for optimal print quality.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments to maintain quality of production.
  • Notifies supervision of needed repairs or replacement parts.
  • Delivers finished material to proper manufacturing areas as required.
  • Ensures that assigned equipment is properly maintained and in safe operating condition.
  • Assists with other printing processes as needed and directed by supervision.
  • Assists in training individuals and other team members as assigned.
  • Understands all documents pertaining to the printing process and adheres to specification requirements.
  • Complies with company policies, procedures, and core processes.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and policies with the intent of maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly.
  • Supports, understands, and adheres to LEAN Principles and Rules by identifying, evaluating and resolving problems.
  • Focuses on continuous improvement, quality, improved cycle times, safety, cost reductions, and customer satisfaction.
  • Works with other departments and maintenance personnel on projects and/or validations.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.)
  • Must have 1 - 3 years' related experience.
  • Must have the ability to write and read simple instructions.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Must pass color vision and color hue tests.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Must have proficient skills in the use of hand tools.
  • Must be able to maintain good attendance.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing up to 8 hours per day and walking to and from various machines and locations throughout the facility.
  • Ability to grasp objects with hands and fingers.
  • Ability to repetitively bend and twist at trunk level.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to crouch and/or kneel when required.
  • Ability to navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend and kneel thorough the entire shift.

The starting range is $32.96hr, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 5 days of paid vacation will be granted after 1 year of service, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
