Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, testing, and continuous improvement of control systems for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. The role provides technical leadership and collaborates with various stakeholders to define control strategies and support project execution.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in controls engineering, specifically in renewable energy environments, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required. The position may accommodate remote work preferences.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of controls engineering experience, preferably with utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS facilities.
• Hands-on experience with PPC or EMS commissioning and acceptance testing for renewable projects.
• Working knowledge of PSS/E or PSCAD for controller-level modeling and validation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, testing, commissioning of plant-level control systems.
• Develop control strategies for hybrid solar and storage facilities.
• Collaborate with teams to support reliable plant performance.

Skills

IEC-61131-3 control logic development

Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis

Communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850)

SCADA/historian familiarity

Python or MATLAB/Simulink

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering
