Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer based in Denver, Colorado, to lead the design and implementation of control systems for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects. This role will require collaboration with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project execution from design to operation.

The ideal candidate should possess over 5 years of experience in controls engineering, particularly in renewable energy applications, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Strong skills in IEC-61131-3 logic development and familiarity with communication protocols are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of controls engineering experience, specifically with utility‐scale solar PV and BESS facilities.
• Experience developing control strategies for grid‐connected renewable energy assets.
• Hands-on experience with PPC or EMS commissioning and acceptance testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain control logic for solar PV and BESS facilities.
• Develop control strategies for APC, RPC, frequency response, and SOC management.
• Review control strategies and design documentation for gaps and risks.

Skills

IEC‑61131‑3 control logic development

Strong troubleshooting and root‐cause analysis

Communication protocols: Modbus TCP/RTU

Working knowledge of PSS/E or PSCAD

Python or MATLAB/Simulink

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
