Job summary

GrayMatter in Indianapolis, IN seeks an Engineering Team Lead for Building Automation to provide leadership, coaching, and technical oversight for a team of Controls Systems Engineers, Technicians, and Specialists while contributing as a hands-on BAS project engineer.

Responsibilities include PLC programming, SCADA integration, onsite troubleshooting, and strong client relationship management, with up to 50% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5-8+ years in industrial automation/controls engineering.
• Experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
• Strong PLC programming, SCADA, and industrial automation experience.
• Advanced understanding of controls, SCADA, PLCs, and BAS/power systems.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of networking and TCP/IP communications.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to support client sites.
• Certifications and BAS industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of engineers and technicians.
• Conduct performance reviews and support career growth.
• Execute BAS projects within scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
• Deliver controls engineering, commissioning, PLC programming, and SCADA integration services.
• Perform onsite troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and technical support.
• Partner with project management, engineering, commissioning, and commercial teams.
• Drive client satisfaction and maintain strong relationships throughout projects.
• Support resource planning, utilization management, and scheduling.
• Assist with development of controls standards and team processes.
• Participate in pre-sales activities including scoping, BOM development, and proposals.
• Support recruiting, hiring, and onboarding activities.
