Job summary

FEV North America, Inc. is seeking a Technical Specialist in controls to lead advanced powertrain control development across engines, hybrids, and fuel cells.

You will guide system and functional requirements, develop model-based control strategies, and mentor project teams from concept through prototype and production-intent stages. The role emphasizes real-time control design, embedded software development, calibration-aware algorithms, and direct interaction with customers to align controls

Qualifications

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • 10+ years of powertrain controls or related propulsion system development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive, Controls Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience leading technical project teams and interfacing with customers.
  • Strong knowledge of real-time control design and embedded software development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of advanced control strategies for engine, hybrid-electric, fuel cell, and vehicle propulsion systems.
  • Define system-level and functional requirements for powertrain controls, including torque coordination and energy management.
  • Develop and review model-based control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink and support implementation into embedded software.
  • Provide technical leadership for control software architecture and ECU selection.
  • Conduct MiL/SiL/HiL testing to verify and validate control functions.
  • Calibrate and validate features for conventional, hybrid, and alternative powertrains per requirements.
  • Interface with customers to understand needs, present concepts, and support proposals.
  • Mentor engineers and guide internal controls capability within the department.
  • Support project management activities including planning, risk management, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Utilize MATLAB/Simulink, ETAS INCA, Vector tools, CAN tools, dSPACE, CalDesk, and related HiL environments.
