GAI Consultants, a national multi-disciplinary engineering firm, is seeking a Construction Technician (Transportation Construction Inspector) for projects in District 11 during the 2025 season. This position will be based out of GAI's Cranberry, PA office.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance with contract documents by the contractor.
- Consult with contractors, consultants, engineers, and superintendents regarding plans, specifications, materials, equipment, methods, practices, and safety precautions involved in construction and installation.
- Prepare daily progress reports and maintain progress schedules.
- Check shop drawings and contractor quotations for variations.
- Maintain records of quantities and costs of materials used.
- Prepare contractors' progress payment claims and recommend payments.
Other Principal Duties:
- Travel as required related to duties or as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain a positive attitude to foster competence and pride in the company.
- Perform other duties as required and appropriate for the position.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Effective reading, writing, communication skills in English, and basic math skills.
- Minimum of 1 year PennDOT experience or 2 years transportation/highway/bridge construction inspection experience.
- Alternatively, 4 years of highway/bridge construction or related experience, or completion of 12 web-based TCI training modules can substitute experience.
- A Civil Engineering or Construction degree can substitute for experience.
Preferred Certifications:
- NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
- NECEPT Bituminous field certification
- ACI/PennDOT Concrete field technician certification
- PennDOT/PTC CDS certification
- ECMS experience
- OSHA 10-Hour certification
General Characteristics:
- Develop advanced field operations skills; proficient with computers; good visual and hearing acuity; follow procedures; possess good organizational skills; work in various weather conditions; prioritize safety; flexible work hours; willingness to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasionally on weekends; capable of physically demanding work, including lifting 25-50 lbs. and walking for extended periods.

Technical Responsibilities:
- Review plans and specifications for field observations.
- Conduct tests and investigations on-site or in laboratories.
- Collect and prepare samples; record data; prepare reports.
- Document field activities and testing results.
- Perform laboratory and field tests per standards.
- Use specialized equipment for analyses and reports.
- Communicate testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.
Project and Task Management:
- May lead projects and tasks.
Management Responsibility:
- Work independently or lead crews when necessary.
Communication Skills:
- Effective oral and written communication; team player; able to motivate and interact positively with clients and staff.
