Job summary

BakerHostetler’s West Coast office seeks a Conflicts Attorney in Intake Services to handle conflict of interest clearance for new matters, hires, and acquisitions, ensuring efficiency and compliance across the firm.

The role requires a JD with 5+ years in a large firm, deep knowledge of ethics rules, and proven leadership. Strong analytical, communication and project management skills are essential; familiarity with InTapp Open is a plus.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited institution and good standing to a state bar in which the Firm has a physical office is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a lawyer in a mid-size to large law firm is required. Significant experience in conflict of interest law and/or professional responsibility is preferred.
• Requires knowledge of applicable ethical, legal and risk management rules governing conflict of interest and resolution processes for international law firms.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time-sensitive projects with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with partners, attorneys, and staff.
• Proven leadership skills and the ability to provide direction.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent computer skills; experience with automated conflict check software; InTapp Open preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in identification, resolution and clearance of conflicts of interest for new matters, hires, and acquisitions.
• Provide waiver and engagement letter exemplars; draft and review waivers and letters for compliance.
• Analyze new matter requests for policy compliance and edit engagement letters accordingly.
• Review client outside counsel guidelines and assess the Firm’s ability to comply.
• Keep current on conflicts of interest trends and identify improvement areas.
• Coordinate with Intake Services to apply best practices and QA protocols for conflict analysis.
• Develop and implement conflicts training for new staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
