Job summary

IES is seeking a Communications Technician II in Sunland Park, NM. You will lead small installer teams, coordinate daily workload, and ensure safety and quality standards are met while performing cable installation, terminations, and testing.

You will oversee field tasks, organize crews, and complete all required paperwork on schedule. The role requires hands-on technical work with CAT 3/5, grounding, and rack installations, plus traveling within branch/regional areas as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and supervise others.
• Must possess and be proficient with the listed tools.
• Must be able to read blueprints and project documents including specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
• Must know the universal communications color codes.
• Must meet Company minimum driving standards.

Responsibilities

• Install work area outlets for floors, modular furniture and walls; terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks; mount face plates and surface mount boxes; follow labeling standards.
• Build closets with backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optics and hardware; install grounding for racks and cable; complete IDC connections.
• Perform testing: continuity tests; use volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, shorts, and transpose pairs; use a tone set.
• Identify active voice or data circuits.
• Coordinate crew performance and provide training; manage personnel and timelines to complete projects.
• Complete paperwork (timesheets, transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers) accurately and on time.
• Adhere to all safety and quality standards and regulations; participate in quality programs.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
