Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced underwriter to evaluate, select, and price commercial lines within assigned authority. You will collaborate with distribution partners to drive growth and maintain profitability, with travel to agency relationships as needed.

The role requires at least 5 years of underwriting experience across property, general liability, commercial auto, and workers' compensation, plus strong risk assessment and policy-structure knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• AU or CPCU designation preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers' Compensation.
• Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures.
• Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms.
• Solid data-drivenApproach to underwriting decisions.
• Strong time management and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Evaluate, select, and price commercial lines business while supporting the performance and profitability of the portfolio.

Work closely with distribution partners and agency relationships, applying underwriting judgment and market awareness to support thoughtful growth within your assigned authority.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal business in alignment with underwriting standards and authority
• Partner with Distribution to support territory production and profitability
• Travel to key agency partner relationships, participate in virtual meetings, and attend industry events as needed

• Professional designations such as AU or CPCU preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation
• Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures
• Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms
• Solid understanding of working with data to support underwriting decisions
• Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skill
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams
• Self‑motivated with strong attention to detail and accountability

Salary Range

$60,000.00-$125,000.00 USD with performance-based bonus potential

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‑faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of our office locations: Plano, TX and Rosemont, IL
