Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies, an A+ (Superior) rated nationwide P&C insurer, is seeking an experienced underwriter to evaluate, price, and manage commercial lines within approved authority.

You will partner with distribution to support profitable growth, travel to key agency relationships, and maintain adherence to underwriting standards. Expect a hybrid schedule with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Professional designations such as AU or CPCU preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers' Compensation.
• Solid understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Evaluate, select, and price commercial lines business while supporting the performance and profitability of the portfolio.

Work closely with distribution partners and agency relationships, applying underwriting judgment and market awareness to support thoughtful growth within your assigned authority.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal business in alignment with underwriting standards and authority
• Partner with Distribution to support territory production and profitability
• Travel to key agency partner relationships, participate in virtual meetings, and attend industry events as needed

Salary Range

$60,000.00-$125,000.00 USD with performance-based bonus potential

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‑faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of our office locations:

Scottsdale, AZ; Rancho Cordova, CA; Plano, TX and Rosemont, IL
