Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies in the Phoenix area is seeking an experienced underwriter to evaluate, price, and renew commercial lines within authority. You'll influence portfolio performance while collaborating with distribution partners.

The role offers a hybrid schedule (2 days remote / 3 in-office), competitive pay, generous PTO, and benefits starting day one. Travel to key agency partners may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• AU or CPCU designations preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation.
• Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures.
• Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms.
• Solid understanding of working with data to support underwriting decisions.
• Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and accountability.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Evaluate, select, and price commercial lines business while supporting the performance and profitability of the portfolio.

Work closely with distribution partners and agency relationships, applying underwriting judgment and market awareness to support thoughtful growth within your assigned authority.

• Partner with Distribution to support territory production and profitability
• Travel to key agency partner relationships, participate in virtual meetings, and attend industry events as needed

Salary Range

$60,000.00-$125,000.00 USD with performance-based bonus potential

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‑faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of our office locations

Scottsdale, AZ; and Rancho Cordova, CA.
