Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced Territory Underwriter to oversee a designated commercial lines territory. You will evaluate risk, price new and renewal business, and build strong agency relationships to drive profitable growth across the region.

In this hybrid role, you’ll partner with distribution and leadership, manage profitability and retention, and travel to meet agency partners and attend industry events as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
• AU or CPCU professional designations preferred
• Minimum of 5 years underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation
• Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures
• Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms
• Solid understanding of working with data to support underwriting decisions
• Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skill
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and accountability

Responsibilities

• Monitor market trends and competitive activity to identify opportunities and support business planning.
• Travel throughout the territory to meet with agency partners and attend industry events as needed.
• Participate in virtual meetings and maintain regular communication with key stakeholders

What You’ll Do

We're looking for an experienced Territory Underwriter to manage and grow a designated commercial lines territory. In this role, you'll evaluate risk, make sound underwriting decisions, build strong agency relationships, and help drive profitable growth across the region. Salary Range

$60,000.00-$125,000.00 USD with performance-based bonus potential

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‐faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of our office locations:

Scottsdale, AZ; and Rancho Cordova, CA; Rosemont, IL and Plano, TX.
