Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis Critical Care Medicine Fellowship seeks a Coding and Charging Supervisor to assist the Coding Manager in daily coding activities, education, and performance monitoring in a fast-paced hospital environment.

You will oversee coders, ensure accuracy of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS coding, and charging processes, while driving training, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance across inpatient and outpatient services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years coding/charging experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS and/or HCPCS/CPT in acute care or professional services.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy & physiology, MS-DRG, APC, MPFS/RVUs, POA, HACs.
• Certifications: RN, RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, COC, CIRCC (or equivalent) with plan to obtain within 6 months if needed.
• Must have one coding credential within 6 months of employment/transfer if charge/clinical experience is met.
• Advanced medical terminology knowledge with excellent written and verbal communication; multi-tasking ability.
• Preferred: BSN/B.S. in Nursing or Health Information Management.
• Preferred: 5+ years in inpatient/outpatient acute care coding or professional services.
• Preferred: 3M encoder and Epic familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Oversee coding activities, teaching and supervision of coders and coding leads.
• Monitor productivity, scheduling, and quality of code/edit reviews.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and accurate charge capture.
• Support Coding Manager in training, education, and research initiatives.
• Collaborate with clinical units to resolve complex coding issues.
