Job summary

Construction Association of Michigan is seeking a lead Code Enforcement Inspector in Warren, MI to perform skilled inspections for compliance with Property Maintenance, Rental Unit and Mobile Home Ordinances. You will ticket noncompliant owners and coordinate with departments to ensure mandated changes are completed.

Responsibilities include leading inspectors, handling inquiries, conducting field investigations, and enforcing city ordinances while maintaining public relations and documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Diploma or official transcripts required with application.
• Minimum five years’ full-time inspection experience.
• Eight years progressively responsible building trades work.
• Driver's license valid in Michigan; driving record must meet city standards.
• Passed the ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector exam within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of Warren Code of Ordinance and related laws.

Responsibilities

• Lead for code enforcement officers.
• Investigate complaints and notify Building Department of violations.
• Receive inquiries by letter, phone, email or in person and refer appropriately.
• Investigate violations and enforce ordinances; issue tickets and attend court as needed.
• Coordinate inspections and assign follow-ups; review records and reports.
• Provide information to the public about Warren’s ordinances.
• Place orders in QALERT and BS&A for other departments to handle.
• Collaborate with other inspectors and Police Department.
