Job summary

McKenna is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer/Rental Inspector in Detroit to enforce building codes and conduct rental housing inspections. You will interpret codes in the field, provide code-compliant solutions, and communicate with staff, the public, and contractors to ensure compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with inspectors, plan reviewers, and administrative staff, plus strong written and verbal communication, time management, and sound judgment in a field-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Understand local building codes and current construction procedure/technology
• Interpret codes in the field and provide code-compliant solutions
• Perform Rental Housing inspections in accordance with municipal ordinances and regulations
• Report violations and maintain files/records
• Work on harmonious teams with other inspectors, plan reviewers, and administrative staff
• Ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Effective time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
• Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment
