Job summary

City of O'Fallon, IL seeks a Lead Code Enforcement Officer to supervise daily operations of the code enforcement function and to administer Crime Free Housing and False Alarm programs. You will assign, review, and coordinate work; train staff; collect and analyze data; and prepare reports for management and court proceedings.

The role requires leadership, enforcement expertise, and the ability to interact with residents, officials, and other departments to ensure consistent application of codes

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4+ years in related work, including at least 2 years in code enforcement or related field; or equivalent combo of education and experience.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Police officer or investigator experience preferred; supervisory experience preferred.
• ICC Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector certification preferred; may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise Code Enforcement Officers, assign complaints and cases.
• Review case files for completeness, accuracy, and legal sufficiency prior to enforcement action.
• Train and mentor officers on codes, documentation standards, and courtroom procedures.
• Coordinate enforcement activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
• Prepare cases for adjudication and testify at hearings; interpret codes for property owners.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable codes and legal updates.
