Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Hematology)

The Fredericksburg VA Health Care System has an immediate opening for a GS-0644-12 Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work within the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service in the Hematology division.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates team or department processes, collaborating with team members and acting as a liaison with management.
• Prepares reports, maintains records, and performs quality control and inventory management.
• Develops and oversees staff training and documents competency.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and coordinates quality control activities.
• Implements performance improvement initiatives and acts as a liaison to other departments.
• Plans and adjusts work schedules, manages staffing, and performs payroll duties.
• Resolves customer complaints and coaches staff in problem-solving.

Work Details

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (may vary)

Minimum Requirements

• U.S. citizenship
• Proficiency in English
• Background/security investigation clearance
• Educational requirement: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
• Certification: Generalist or categorical certification by ASCP or AMT, or eligible to obtain certification

Experience & Grade Determination

One year of creditable experience at GS-11 level or equivalent. The role involves independent laboratory operations, developing and evaluating procedures, and providing guidance to staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Broad knowledge of medical technology and complex problem-solving skills
• Skill in troubleshooting laboratory instruments
