Job summary

FAS is seeking an Associate Director to lead and grow our work on clean energy, collaborating across climate, environment, and government capacity teams through FAS’s Center for Regulatory Ingenuity.

You will serve as a subject‑matter expert and policy entrepreneur, build partnerships with policymakers and funders, manage projects and budgets, supervise staff, and sharpen strategy to advance legislative, administrative, and implementation outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including leadership roles.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. clean energy policy ecosystem.
  • Experience fundraising from philanthropic and/or public sources.
  • Ability to read political feasibility and move ideas through policy processes.
  • Experience building and managing coalitions across organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.
  • Ability to lead projects and portfolios.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Steward and grow FAS’s clean energy portfolio by guiding funded projects with Government Affairs, Government Capacity, and Center for Regulatory Ingenuity.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert and public voice on clean energy topics.
  • Build partnerships with stakeholders to advance policy ideas.
  • Grow portfolio by developing fundable concepts and managing funder relationships.
  • Manage projects, budgets, and grant deliverables.
  • Supervise and mentor staff and contractors.
  • Align strategy with cross-cutting policy teams.
  • Lead fundraising efforts for portfolio growth.
