Job summary

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office seeks a Claims Account Representative 3 to lead debt collection efforts for state agencies and local governments. This full-time, hybrid role is based in Columbus, OH, with in-person training as needed and telework options.

Responsibilities include supervising lower-level staff, negotiating payment plans, performing skip tracing, and maintaining debtor records. The ideal candidate has strong customer service skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and experience

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 3 years experience in collections, or 24 months in collections with 12 months training.
• Experience with English composition or business communication.
• Familiarity with arithmetic and basic accounting.
• Proficiency with personal computers, calculators and telephone equipment.
• Or completion of an associates core program in business administration, communications or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Acts as lead worker, trains and directs lower-level staff.
• Collects delinquent taxes and/or monies owed to state agencies; handles sensitive contacts with the public, clients, accountants and attorneys to collect debts.
• Establishes/negotiates payment plans for debtors.
• Works with special counsel and third-party vendors to collect debts.
• Performs skip tracing and verifies debtor location.
• Maintains accounts and daily log sheets for supervisor.
• Makes recommendations to supervisor to mark accounts uncollectible.
• Issues praecipes and cites permits.
• Performs general clerical tasks and provides information.
