Job summary

gpac is seeking an experienced Collections Attorney in Akron, OH for a high-volume docket. The role combines supervision of two collectors and two paralegals with hands-on litigation support, pretrials, settlements, and active case management in a balanced hybrid schedule.

You will handle garnishments, skip tracing, and court filings while maintaining an Ohio law license and 3+ years of collections/subrogation experience. The position offers on-site Akron days with 1 to 2 remote days per week.

• Additional Litigation Support: Handle hourly work for general litigation matters, including insurance defense cases as needed.

Position Overview

A prominent and growing legal practice in Akron, OH, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Collections Attorney to oversee a high-volume collections and subrogation docket. This role offers a balanced hybrid schedule and the opportunity to manage and direct a dedicated department team while maintaining a active role in pretrials, settlement negotiations, and auxiliary litigation support.

Key Responsibilities

• Docket Management: Manage a high-volume collections and subrogation caseload for both public and private clients, including state, county, and commercial creditors.
• Department Supervision: Supervise, mentor, and direct the daily workflow of two collectors and two department paralegals.
• Litigation & Hearing Attendance: Prepare mediation statements, handle pretrials, and represent clients at settlement conferences (attending approximately 99% of scheduled proceedings).
• Case Preparation & Filings: Oversee and assist with court filings, discovery responses, post-judgment collection tools (garnishments), and skip tracing to locate debtor assets and property.
• Additional Litigation Support: Handle hourly work for general litigation matters, including insurance defense cases as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience in collections, subrogation, garnishments, and skip tracing.
• Preferred Experience: Special Counsel collections experience (collecting on behalf of government/state entities) is highly preferred.
• Licensure: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active license to practice law in Ohio.
• Skills: Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills suited for managing a fast-paced docket, combined with strong leadership capabilities to supervise staff effectively.

Work Schedule & Location

• Work Arrangement: Hybrid schedule with guaranteed 1 day remote per week (flexible up to 2 days remote for qualified candidates).
• Primary Location: On-site in Akron, OH on required office days.
