Job summary

Lake County Government is seeking a Civil Engineer for Public Works to direct and perform a range of complex engineering and project management assignments related to water distribution and sanitary sewer infrastructure.

The role involves coordinating with design consultants on preliminary/final designs, budgets, and bids; reviewing plans for compliance with standards; solving field issues with contractors; and managing capital improvement projects from design through closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, construction or municipal engineering.
• 6 years of related experience in design and construction administration.
• Requires a Professional Engineering License in Illinois.
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical work in investigation, review, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Public Works infrastructure improvements.
• Manage and collaborate with design consultants for preliminary and final design, construction plans, budgets, review pay estimates and invoices.
• Review development plans for sound engineering design and code conformances.
• Problem solve field construction issues with contractors and field technicians.
• Manage capital improvement projects including construction documents, bidding, construction oversight and project closeout.
• Coordinate design and construction for sewer and water capital improvement and maintenance projects.
• Prepare fee calculations for connection of new customers.
• Prepare bidding materials and specifications for procurement of equipment, supplies, and certain contractual services.
• Communicate effectively with employees, consultants, other agencies, and the general public.
