Job summary

City of Overland Park is seeking a Supervisory Civil Engineer for the Planning & Development Services Department. The role oversees professional/technical staff conducting civil engineering reviews, inspections, and related development projects to ensure compliance with city standards.

Responsibilities include directing EOD, managing staff, coordinating with multiple divisions, and presenting findings to governmental bodies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer registration in Kansas or must become registered in Kansas within one year of hire.
• Master's degree in engineering, public administration, or business preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable record.

Responsibilities

• Acts as Engineer of the Day (EOD) and sets the EOD schedule for the Division.
• Develops recommendations and technical reports on engineering matters.
• Advises City Council and Planning Commission on engineering-related matters.
• Reviews construction plans for private/public improvements to ensure conformance with standards.
• Coordinates Planning Commission process and assigns work to staff.
• Completes final reviews of reports and coordinates with divisions on complex projects.
• Represents the City in court on private development issues when needed.
• Manages on-call engineering contracts for plan review and traffic study reviews.
