Job summary

The City of Overland Park is seeking a full-time Supervisory Civil Engineer in the Planning & Development Services Department to lead professional and technical staff in the civil engineering review of plans and inspections for private development.

The role coordinates engineering activities, prepares technical reports, advises the City Council, and ensures compliance with city standards on streets, storm drains, and site plans. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
Professional Engineer registration in Kansas or eligibility within one year of hiring.
Master’s degree in engineering, public administration, or business preferred.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

Acts as Engineer of the Day (EOD) as needed and sets the EOD schedule.
Develops recommendations and technical reports on engineering and construction matters.
Advises City Council and Planning Commission on engineering matters.
Reviews construction plans for conformance with city standards and ordinances.
Coordinates Planning Commission process and assigns staff work.
Reviews and finalizes reports related to development plans and coordinates with staff and applicants.
