Monterra is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to own civil across the firm, coordinating with electrical engineers to deliver integrated civil and electrical designs for power and energy infrastructure projects.

You will develop and refine Monterra's civil standards, drive discipline-building, and coach our in-house AI agent to improve site output. This is remote-first with travel; you’ll influence the company from day one as the first civil hire.

Qualifications

• Active civil PE license in California; willingness to obtain comity licensure in other states we work in.
• 7+ years of site/land development design (grading, drainage, stormwater) including plan check to permit.
• Structural competence for pads, footings, and anchorage (ACI 318, ASCE 7, IBC/CBC).
• Fluency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Strong communication skills: explain engineering rules to teammates outside your field.
• Curiosity, ownership, self-starter, creative problem solver, able to juggle multiple fast-moving projects.

Responsabilités

• Site, Grading & Drainage: develop grading, drainage plans for equipment yards, data center pads, and charging lots; CAD from survey data.
• Light to Moderate Structural: design pads and foundations for transformers, BESS enclosures, generators, and EV chargers per ACI 318 and IBC/CBC.
• Coordination & Delivery: coordinate trench routes, utility crossings, AHJ responses through permit.
• Civil Standards & AI Agent Coaching: set standards, document rules, coach AI output; review AI-generated site work.
