Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health seeks a Registered Charge Nurse for the Step Down Unit at St. Charles Hospital. The RN provides care within the scope of state practice acts and coordinates on-site clinical activities in behavioral health units.

The Charge Nurse leads daily operations, oversees scheduling, and serves as liaison between nursing staff and community partners. A current RN license, BLS, and de-escalation training are required; BSN is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years’ experience as a registered nurse in psychiatric acute care setting.
• Current, unencumbered RN license required.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• De-Escalation training required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive role model and liaison to staff and community partners.
• Perform customer rounding, chart reviews, and quality activities.
• Lead admissions, discharges, and maintain patient flow.
• Participate in administrative meetings and supervise interns/volunteers.
• Maintain safe milieu and manage patients demonstrating challenging behavior.
• Treat patients and families with empathy and respect.
• Develop annual personal goals with supervisor and pursue learning opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned by Director or Manager.
