Job summary

John Grace Restoration and Construction in West Michigan is seeking a Lead Carpenter to take ownership of restoring homes and delivering high-quality carpentry work. You will lead 2-4 staff, communicate with homeowners and the Project Manager daily, and ensure safety on-site while meeting project timelines.

Ideal candidates have 6-8+ years in construction and 2-3 years of leadership, with strong time management and a collaborative, proactive approach.

• Communicate with homeowners and Project Manager daily to keep projects on track.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment at jobsites.
• Drive company vehicle to jobsites and adhere to traffic laws.

Purpose of the Lead Carpenter Role:

As a Lead Carpenter you are taking ownership of helping to restore homes for the communities of people we serve. You must provide excellent craftsmanship and outstanding communication to help us achieve our purpose of restoring lives.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has 6-8+ years of on-job experience in a verifiable construction role.
• Has 2-3 years of team leadership in a construction environment.
• Can function in a high stress environment that can change daily.
• Has excellent time management, delegation, and multi-tasking skills.
• Is self-motivated and can work independently and as a team.
• Can provide constructive feedback to team members and is open to receiving feedback to help them grow and learn.

Key responsibilities and duties:

• Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of construction and job site safety.
• Skilled at framing, trim/cabinets/door, windows, exterior finishes, finished carpentry etc.
• Highly skilled in framing and finished carpentry preferred.
• Work on jobsites daily and always maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Drive company vehicle to jobsites- follow all traffic laws.
• Communicate technical knowledge and expectations in a professional/effective manner to homeowners who may be unfamiliar with construction terminology and process.
• Communicate with Project Manager daily to ensure projects are on track.
• Oversee 2-4 staff – ensure high quality of work and set clear expectations.
• Work to develop carpenters and other team members.
• Work week is typically 40-45 hours a week, not expected to exceed 50 hours during busy times.

Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is a very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
• Candidate for employment must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
• Candidate must pass a criminal background check to perform work on insurance related claims.
• Basic knowledge of smartphone/email technology.
