Job summary

AbbVie Inc. seeks a Principal Research Scientist to lead in vivo cardiovascular safety pharmacology across rodent, canine, and nonhuman‑primate models. You will design, execute, interpret, and report studies and ensure GLP compliance and regulatory readiness while guiding a matrixed team.

You will mentor scientists, communicate strategy and risk to senior leadership, and advance cardiovascular safety capabilities, workflows, and technologies in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in physiology, pharmacology, toxicology or related field.
• 10+ years in cardiovascular biology, safety pharmacology, or related discipline.
• Experience with rodent and large-animal models (canine and NHP).
• Experience authoring and implementing SOPs; GLP knowledge.
• Experience leading in a matrixed environment; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, execution, quality, interpretation, and reporting of in vivo cardiovascular safety studies across rodent, canine, and NHP models.
• Provide scientific leadership for cardiovascular assessments, including hemodynamics, ECG, EPHYS, echocardiography, vascular reactivity, thrombosis and disease models.
• Develop/validate fit-for-purpose cardiovascular assays and SOPs; ensure regulatory readiness.
• Mentor scientists, communicate study strategy/results to senior leadership and regulatory teams; advance capabilities.
• Manage team members in a matrixed environment to plan, coordinate, and prioritize studies.
