Job summary

CesiumAstro, Inc. is seeking a Principal CAD Designer to advance CAD design for satellite and aerospace hardware. You will develop and manage 3D models, drawings, and documentation in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

The role requires strong SolidWorks skills, GD&T expertise, and experience with PDM/PLM systems. You will lead CAD standards, BOM structures, and Engineering Change Orders while mentoring junior designers.

Qualifications

• 7+ years CAD design and drafting experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or product development.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, and drawings.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering documentation best practices.
• Proficiency with drafting tools such as DraftSight, Lucidchart, Draw.io or equivalents.
• Experience using issue tracking/workflow tools such as Jira.
• Knowledge of change control and configuration management principles.
• Ability to interpret specifications and documentation for BOMs and hardware.
• Exposure to ERP/PLM systems like SAP, Windchill, ENOVIA or similar.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced CAD drafting and design support across the product development lifecycle using SolidWorks.
• Generate, modify, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and documentation.
• Ensure drawings comply with GD&T, standards, and company procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams on design development.
• Support prototype, development, and production design updates.
• Manage mechanical CAD files, drawings, and design documentation in PDM systems.
