4LEAF, Inc. seeks an experienced Building Commissioner or Building Official to lead building and safety functions for municipal clients in Bristol County, ensuring code enforcement, plan review, inspections, and permitting are delivered efficiently.

The role requires leadership in a municipal setting, strong technical knowledge of Rhode Island Building Codes, and the ability to establish trust with city staff and the public while balancing compliance and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a municipal building department.
• Strong knowledge of Rhode Island Building Codes and related regulations.
• Ability to manage inspections, plan review, permitting, and staff coordination.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of a municipal building division or department.
• Interpret, apply, and enforce Rhode Island Building Codes and related regulations.
• Oversee inspections, plan review, permitting, code compliance, and customer service functions.
• Supervise and coordinate building inspectors, plans examiners, permit technicians, and support staff.
• Review complex construction documents and code interpretations.
• Provide technical guidance to staff, contractors, and property owners.
• Coordinate with Planning, Engineering, Fire, Public Works and other departments as needed.
• Support process improvements and high-quality service delivery.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, and recommendations for municipal leadership.
• Represent the Building Division in meetings with staff and officials.
