Job summary

Kiewit is seeking several Building Mechanical Engineers to design and manage fast-paced MEP designs for a diverse portfolio of industrial buildings and facilities across multiple market sectors. Ideal candidates have a strong HVAC, piping, ventilation, and plumbing background, especially for high‑reliability environments and EPC projects.

Positions support projects nationwide with offices including New Jersey, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and more.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
• 7+ years of Building design experience with EPC exposure across multiple locations.
• PE license is a plus; for Sr/Lead roles licensure is preferred.
• Experience with HVAC systems including chilled water, dehumidification, hydronic heating, steam, and gas piping.
• Proficient in HVAC load modeling, psychrometric analysis, ductwork and pipe sizing.
• Experience using building modeling software such as Trane Trace 700 or Carrier HAP.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems in high‑reliability environments (N+1, 2N, cleanrooms, radiation shielding).

Responsibilities

• Design and layout of mechanical systems/equipment for varied buildings, including HVAC, piping and plumbing.
• Develop cost-effective mechanical designs meeting reliability and safety standards.
• Create construction documents, drawings and specifications for HVAC, piping and plumbing systems.
• Perform system sizing calculations and equipment selection (chilled water, hydronic heating, steam, etc.).
• Coordinate with other design disciplines in a collaborative team environment.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure deliverables meet contract and project requirements.
• Support construction teams by responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead support engineers in completing design work.
