Job summary

Transwestern is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the on-site operation of building systems, oversee HVAC, electrical, and life-safety operations, and manage a high-performing engineering team.

The role requires a minimum of 10 years in building operations, 7+ years supervising maintenance in commercial properties, and appropriate trade licenses. On-site accountability and proactive vendor coordination are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of building operations experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 7+ years building maintenance experience in a commercial property including supervisory experience.
• License/permit for trade as required (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician License).
• Experience with HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, and building systems maintenance.
• Familiar with EMS/programming and fire alarm systems; building management systems.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring and training.
• Review daily work orders and assign tasks, monitor issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Regional Director of Engineering to achieve corporate goals.
• Oversee and inspect work to ensure equipment is functional and client spaces are in prime condition.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and company directives.
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for building systems.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance; keep maintenance records.
• Inspect fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operations meet design specs.
• Estimate time and materials for repairs and maintain inventory.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance with clients to minimize downtime.
• Respond to emergencies and manage energy usage to minimize costs.
• Communicate with tenants, clients, and vendors; perform other duties as assigned.
