The City of Faribault seeks a solution oriented Building Official to lead the Building Code Division. Responsibilities include reviewing plans for code compliance, managing inspections, and enforcing rental licenses and property maintenance ordinances. You will advise on code updates and assist the Director with budget and reporting.

This is a fulltime city position open until filled, with a focus on building safety, contractor coordination and staff leadership in a municipal setting.

Qualifications

• Certified as a Building Official by the State of Minnesota.
• High School graduation or completion of trade school in construction related field.
• At least five years of inspections or plan review experience; same for fire protection systems.
• At least four years of building trades experience.
• Ability to develop relationships with contractors, architects and the public.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of fire code and electrical field.
• Knowledge of city zoning.
• Knowledge of energy code.
• Knowledge of accessibility code.

Responsabilités

• Manage building code, electric code, property maintenance code and rental license programs and staff.
• Perform plan reviews and required inspections for commercial, industrial, and residential structures.
• Clarify municipal codes with contractors and residents to ensure conformity.
• Assist in annual budget preparation and administration for the division.
• Maintain the State of Minnesota Delegation Agreement with the Department of Labor and Industry.
• Enforce Hazardous Properties rules and procedures per statutes and local ordinances.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings for input on code requirements.
• Provide guidance and supervision to Building Code staff.
