Job summary

TEGNA is seeking a Broadcast Engineer Lead for WVEC-TV Hampton to drive innovation and maintain excellence across broadcast and IT infrastructure. You will shape system design, set local engineering standards, and lead complex projects with autonomy to ensure a resilient 24/7 operation.

The role demands hands-on technical expertise, strategic direction, and the ability to mentor staff while coordinating with corporate engineering, vendors, and station leadership.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, IT, or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years in broadcast operations/technology with leadership of complex projects.
• Technical: Hands-on with broadcast systems, networking, servers, and desktop support; IP news gathering tech preferred.
• Leadership: Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Operational flexibility: Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays and on-call rotation for a 24/7 news operation.

Responsibilities

• Owns primary technical responsibility for broadcast and IT systems; ensures reliability and long-term performance.
• Lead planning, technical design, and execution of major local, capital, and corporate projects.
• Maintain and upgrade infrastructure including servers, storage, networks, and related facilities.
