Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Broadcast Engineer Lead for WVEC-TV Hampton to drive innovation and maintain excellence across broadcast and IT infrastructure.

You will balance hands-on work with strategic project leadership, acting as the technical owner for key systems and advancing modernization initiatives. With significant autonomy, you will shape system design decisions, define local standards, and lead complex projects that impact station operations, ensuring reliability and resilience in a 24/7

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, IT, or related field; equivalent professional experience also considered.
• Minimum 5 years in broadcast operations/technology with a proven track record of leading complex technical projects.
• Hands-on experience with broadcast systems, networking, servers, and desktop support.
• Knowledge of satellite, microwave, and IP news gathering technologies is highly preferred.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and participate in an on‑call rotation to support a 24/7 news operation.

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership and ownership of key broadcast and IT systems.
• Serve as primary technical owner for systems; ensure reliability and scalability.
• Make independent decisions on system architecture and standards within guidelines.
• Identify modernization opportunities and roadmap technology upgrades.
• Mentor engineering staff and review work for quality.
• Lead end-to-end planning and execution of major local, capital, and corporate projects.
• Define project scope, approaches, sequencing, and risk mitigation.
• Design and approve integration of studios, control rooms, transmission, automation, and DAM systems.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to translate technical strategy into business outcomes.
