Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a Lead Biological Compliance Monitor (Staff Environmental Scientist) to support environmental inspections and provide biological project support for utility infrastructure in Southern California. Based in Irvine or LA, you will lead field teams, review reports, and ensure regulatory compliance with health and safety standards.

You will coordinate monitoring efforts, communicate with contractors, and oversee mitigation measures.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in environmental science, biology, cultural resources or similar
• 4–6 years of experience in environmental compliance
• Knowledge of utility and vegetation management construction methods
• Experience with SWPPP, BMP, and erosion controls including monitoring
• Experience authoring daily inspection reports and spill response

Responsibilities

• Support a regionally focused multi-disciplinary team of junior and peer scientists
• Coordinate field monitoring staff per project requirements
• Act as primary contact for elevating compliance concerns to project managers
• Provide clarification of project requirements to monitors using guides
• Review work of junior monitors for compliance with guidance
• Identify corrective actions for non‑compliance areas
• Coordinate with land rights and client relations to meet project goals
• Oversee installation and removal of environmental mitigation measures
• Read and interpret detailed engineering plans and construction drawings
• Communicate with contractors to maintain compliance in a collaborative manner
• Lead environmental compliance discussions in meetings and tailgate sessions
• Conduct daily field inspections and document contractor compliance
• Prepare concise written daily inspection reports with photos
• Conduct site visits with other specialists and personnel
• Maintain electronic file systems and record keeping on cloud platforms
