Job summary

LatchBio, Inc. seeks a Bioengineer L2, Lead Scientist to anchor the benchmarking team in San Francisco. You will report to the CTO, collaborate with therapeutics, product engineering, and scientific leadership, and drive benchmark design, tasks, and quality across partner projects.

You will mentor up to seven scientists, optimize compute and tools, and help shape data acquisition and the roadmap while scaling operations for frontier model labs.

Qualifications

• Leads a team of scientists and coordinates onboarding and mentorship.
• Plans and aligns benchmark programs with leadership and product teams.
• Demonstrates strong judgement on scientific value and quality of work.

Responsibilities

• Benchmark co-design: map domain knowledge into benchmarks and release them for frontier labs.
• Hands-on task design: design tasks and graders with clear rubrics and standards.
• Production and quality: ensure program meets volume and timelines per contract.
• Quality Review: review team's work for scientific value, writing, scope fit, and transferability.
• Team mentorship & leadership: lead up to 7 scientists, onboard, provide feedback and development.
• Operations support: collaborate with engineering to optimize compute and platform usage.
• Tools and product engineering: build automation tools and provide user feedback on platform tools.
• Strategy: lead data acquisition and roadmap, help hire strong candidates, communicate with leadership.
