Job summary

Irving Knight Group is seeking a Senior Energy Storage Engineer to oversee utility-scale BESS projects across the United States. You will lead engineering reviews, develop standards, and coordinate with EPCs, utilities, and vendors.

You will analyze battery systems, EMS/BMS, power electronics, and data flows, with emphasis on performance, safety, and reliability. A strong background in US ISOs, Modbus/IEC protocols, and Python analytics is preferred.

Qualifications

• BESS industry experience with commissioning through operation.
• Familiarity with data flows and ingestion protocols (Modbus, IEC-104, OPC-UA).
• Knowledge of lithium-ion battery behavior, degradation, SOA/SoC.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering reviews for utility-scale BESS projects.
• Develop technical standards, specifications and design requirements.
• Review electrical designs, layouts, sizing, SDs and BOP systems.
• Evaluate batteries, PCS, transformers, MV equipment, EMS, BMS and SCADA.
• Support procurement, vendor selection and technical bid evaluations.
• Lead FAT, SAT, commissioning and project handover.
• Provide technical guidance to Operations and Maintenance teams.
• Coordinate with EPCs, utilities and consultants.
