Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Batterysystem mechanical lead to own all mechanical aspects of battery systems for X-BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and associated ground equipment. You will lead enclosure design, packaging, and integration while mentoring engineers and ensuring performance and reliability across the program.

The role focuses on developing a vertically integrated battery pack design to enable top performance, reliability, and rapid procurement, with leadership across design reviews

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Battery design experience on large aircraft or an equivalent power system.
• 5+ years relevant experience.
• Have delivered battery power systems to market.
• Proficient with mechanical engineering development tools, simulation, and test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the battery system external enclosure, thermal management and environmental protection for X-BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and all ground equipment
• Design, develop, and integrate internal component packaging and retention, harness and connector integration
• Tolerance, assembly, and serviceability analysis
• Ensure system performance and reliability through rigorous system-level shock, vibration, ingress, and thermal verification
• Root cause investigate complex problems related to the mechanical package, environmental, manufacturing, etc.
• Provide mentorship, design review, and program execution leadership
• Work in a fast-paced environment
