Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Battery System Mechanical Lead to own all mechanical aspects of battery systems for X-BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and ground equipment. You will oversee enclosure design, component packaging, and interconnections, ensuring reliability and manufacturability.

You will build a world-class team of engineers, drive system-level verification, and mentor engineers through design reviews and program execution in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Battery design experience on large aircraft or equivalent power system (rocket, satellite, etc.).
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Proven track record delivering battery power systems to market.
• Proficient with mechanical engineering development tools, simulation, and test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the battery system exterior enclosure, thermal management and environmental protection for X-BAT and ground equipment.
• Design, develop, and integrate internal component packaging and retention, harness and connector integration.
• Perform tolerance, assembly, and serviceability analysis.
• Verify system performance and reliability through system-level shock, vibration, ingress, and thermal verification.
• Root cause investigation of complex mechanical packaging, environmental, manufacturing issues.
