Redwood Materials Inc. seeks a Battery Software Integration Engineer to bridge second-life automotive batteries with scalable software platforms in a cutting-edge energy storage system. The role focuses on software-defined storage architecture and off-vehicle integration.

You will lead OEM discussions, develop translation layers and gateways, and ensure robust data parsing and fault management within Linux environments using Rust and Python.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in controls and software engineering with practical understanding of lithium-ion battery architectures and external BMS software.
• Demonstrated experience acting as a primary software POC with external suppliers or automotive OEMs, leading complex software discussions.
• Proficiency in modern software engineering practices and languages (Rust, Python, C/C++).
• Expertise in automotive and industrial communication networks (CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet).
• Excellent ability to reverse-engineer, troubleshoot, and adapt complex OEM software for circular energy ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Be the lead engineering voice bridging legacy automotive hardware with modern software infrastructure with OEMs and suppliers.
• Design and deploy translation layers and software gateways to integrate battery packs into our energy storage system.
• Develop containerized applications to handle external BMS communication, data parsing, and fault management using Rust and Python in Linux.
• Build resilient communication interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, Modbus) for varied OEM packs without compromising system stability.
• Collaborate with power electronics, site controller, control teams, and internal BMS developers for safe, optimized operation of integrated modules.
• Drive validation across simulations, HIL platforms, and physical hardware to verify OEM BMS behavior and control algorithms.
