Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Lead Controls Engineer to serve as the technical leader for Building Automation System (BAS) projects supporting commercial, retail, and mission-critical facilities. This role will be responsible for the design, programming, commissioning, and implementation of advanced building automation and energy management systems while providing leadership to project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical BAS expertise with strong project leadership skills and has experience translating customer requirements into scalable control system solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering, design, programming, and commissioning of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- Develop site-specific control strategies and programming based on customer requirements
- Review engineering drawings, control schematics, specifications, and submittals
- Coordinate with project managers, technicians, contractors, vendors, and clients throughout project execution
- Ensure systems meet performance requirements, energy efficiency goals, and industry standards
- Support startup, testing, validation, and commissioning activities
- Troubleshoot and optimize complex control sequences and building systems
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and field personnel
- Assist with project documentation, training, and customer turnover activities
- Support projects across commercial, retail, and mission-critical/data center environments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience
- 8+ years of engineering experience focused on Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Strong experience in BAS schematic design and/or controls software development
- Hands-on experience with major BAS platforms such as: WebCTRL, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell EBI, Similar enterprise BAS platforms
- Experience designing and programming site-specific control solutions
- Strong understanding of commissioning processes and startup activities
- Ability to interpret and develop control schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Experience supporting data centers or other mission-critical facilities
- Expertise spanning both controls design and software programming
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary project teams
- Knowledge of energy optimization and advanced building control strategies
