Job summary

Legacy Placement Partners is seeking an Application Engineer – Building Automation Systems (BAS) for a leading commercial mechanical and building-controls organization in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.

You will translate customer requirements, mechanical drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation into coordinated controls designs, submittals, bills of material, programming requirements, network architecture, and project execution plans. This role ideal for BAS/DDC expertise.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years Building Automation/HVAC controls or related engineering experience.
  • Ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings and sequences of operation.
  • Strong BAS/DDC knowledge and BACnet networks for integration.
  • Proficient in technical writing, organization, and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Design BAS for new, retrofit, and service projects.
  • Translate requirements into controls designs, submittals, and BOMs.
  • Program BAS and develop control strategies from design docs.
  • Create network architectures and field-startup support.

Position Summary

Legacy Placement Partners is seeking an experienced Application Engineer – Building Automation Systems (BAS) for a leading commercial mechanical and building-controls organization in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.

The Application Engineer develops technical building-automation solutions by translating customer requirements, mechanical drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation into coordinated controls designs, submittals, bills of material, programming requirements, network architecture, and project execution plans.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, DDC controls, BAS programming, BACnet networks, and controls design who enjoys taking a project from design requirements through programming and field startup.

  • Review project specifications, drawings, sequences of operation, and sales estimates
  • Design Building Automation Systems for new construction, retrofit, and service projects
  • Select appropriate controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, and related controls components
  • Develop controls drawings, bills of material, submittals, and technical documentation
  • Participate in sales-to-operations turnover meetings
  • Review sales estimates and project layouts for technical accuracy
  • Participate in jobsite walkthroughs with contractors, customers, and building-management teams as needed
  • Independently program Building Automation Systems
  • Develop control strategies and programming based on mechanical system requirements and sequences of operation
  • Create DDC point databases and controller programming
  • Develop DDC panel layouts, valve and damper schedules, and controls documentation
  • Design BAS network architecture supporting controllers, operator workstations, and third-party integrations
  • Integrate systems using BACnet, Ethernet, LON, and other building-automation protocols
  • Create programming code for field controllers based on project design documents
  • Develop or oversee BAS workstation builds and system graphics
  • Provide startup and checkout documentation to Project Managers and field technicians
  • Support commissioning, validation, troubleshooting, and system startup
  • Serve as a technical resource for operations, sales, field technicians, and customers
  • Perform occasional field activities as required
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of Building Automation, HVAC controls, mechanical design, electrical controls, or related application-engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls (DDC)
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment and sequences of operation
  • Experience with controls devices and networked building systems
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and equipment submittals
  • Understanding of controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, and related field devices
  • Ability to develop or interpret controls drawings, points lists, and sequences
  • Strong technical writing, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and controls design, estimating, drafting, or submittal software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • Experience with BACnet, Niagara/Tridium, Honeywell, Distech, Johnson Controls, Siemens, PLCs, or similar controls platforms
  • BAS/DDC programming experience
  • Experience with system integration and third-party devicesExperience with Bluebeam, Visio, AutoCAD, Revit, or controls-estimating/design tools
  • Networking, cybersecurity, or engineering credentials

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment with periodic visits to active construction sites, customer facilities, shops, and project meetings.

Site visits may require walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, wearing required PPE, and working around weather, noise, dust, and moving equipment.

Local travel and schedule flexibility may be required based on project needs.
